Engineering is a profitable career. Engineering graduates
receive the highest starting salary compared to any other skilled graduates.
Currently in US, petroleum engineers have a median starting annual wage of
$74,240 (=Rs5175159.04), electrical engineers $57,330( =Rs3996388.31), computer
engineers $63,970( =Rs 4459252.75), aerospace engineers $65,450( =Rs 4562421.33)
chemical engineers $58,830( =Rs 4100951.06) and material engineers $52,900( =Rs
3687579.65). According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the field
projects involving engineers will have growth of 140,000 jobs over the next
decade, in the US itself.
In India, TCS, INFOSYS, COGNIZANT, WIPRO are the most
sought-after among the local companies for employment. To a fresh engineering
graduate, these companies provide a salary in the range of 3.25-3.6 lakhs per
annum. 70% of students are placed in this bracket. 5-7 lakhs is considered
higher than average and BNP Paribas, Mu Sigma, Oracle etc offer such salary.
15% of freshers are recruited in this bracket. Next bracket is 8-12 lakhs and
about 10% fresh grads are placed in organizations offering this range. Such
organizations are Morgan Stanley, Citicorp, and Samsung etc. Salary of 13 lakhs
and above is offered to about 5% and is mainly for students with exceptional
talent. Google, Microsoft, Qualcomm offer salaries at this level sum up, the starting salary
is decided on which company one is working, the domain, and also projects and
internships done during the training period. Pay package ranging from 3 to 4.5
lakhs annually is offered from service-based companies for freshers from tier 3
colleges. They offer more than 10 lakhs for 1st and 2nd tier colleges. Product
based companies have salary package ranging from 5-10 lakhs annually.

In
2018 more than 80% of engineering students from the Chennai, branch got placed. Placement packages were 10 LPA
to 40 LPA. The package is around 10 LPA for civil. TATA, Rolls-Royce, Volvo,
Mercedes, Renault, ONGC, and Technip visit. The computer science students
receive the highest placement package. In
2018, the package touched one crore per annum approximately. In software
companies, the lowest offered was around 8 lakhs per annum. Microsoft offered
1.4 crores INR. The mechanical department has salary offers of 8.5 LPA on an
average. Samsung came in 2018 with a package of 23 lakhs per annum. Intel,

In
2018, 3000 offers were received by this top
engineering college in Chennai, with 2500 offers accepted by students.
Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Toshiba, Asian Paints, Canon etc offered more than
20 LPA as a starting salary. The jobs offered by Wipro, Infosys, Tata
Consultancy Services (TCS), came with a package of 2-4 LPA.
